Each year since 2006 on May 17th, the World Hypertension League, in close partnership with the International Society of Hypertension and other organisations, has hosted World Hypertension Day. Hypertension is a silent killer that in general does not present with symptoms in the majority of people. It is usually detected by having one’s blood pressure measured on a regular basis. The main objective of World Hypertension Day commemoration is to raise public awareness and education on hypertension.
Bongaka Health Care took the initiative in 2015 to commemorate the World Hypertension Day in Mmopane. Again in 2019 Bongaka Health Care hosted the commemoration in Oodi. The commemoration days were filled with a variety of health conscious events such as commemoration walk, aerobics, free blood pressure clinic and health talks on avoiding, having and living with high blood pressure. It is through such commemoration platforms that awareness and public education on hypertension is intensified.
